Atlantic Star arrives at Mauá shipyard

The semi-submersible Atlantic Star arrived in Guanabara Bay today under tow by the AHTSs Valletta and Xavantes and is expected to berth at Estaleiro Mauá S/A following the completion of its workover campaign for Karoon Energy at the Baúna field.

    The timing is significant.

Constellation’s contract with Karoon covered a one-well heavy workover campaign, while Karoon has since confirmed that the intervention on the SPS-92 well was successfully completed, restoring production to approximately 8,600 barrels of oil per day. The Atlantic Star’s arrival at Mauá comes immediately after the conclusion of that campaign, marking the end of its latest operational assignment.

The market is already watching Trident Energy as a possible next destination for the Atlantic Star. While no public contract award has been announced, Constellation Oil Services’s latest investor presentation places two developments side by side: the completion of the Karoon campaign and an open demand from Trident Energy for an anchor-moored drilling unit with start-up expected in 2027. Although the company does not explicitly connect the two, the sequence has naturally attracted the market’s attention.

    Constellation secures Petrobras extensions

Constellation Oil Services announced on April 1, 2026, that it has secured contract extensions with Petrobras for three offshore drilling rigs, adding approximately $1.1 billion to its backlog and reinforcing long-term revenue visibility.

The agreements cover the Brava Star, Gold Star and Alpha Star units and represent a multi-year extension of contracted operations. As a result, Constellation’s total backlog increases to around $2.8 billion, with coverage extending through 2030.

The most significant extension was awarded to the drillship Brava Star, which secured a four-year extension through December 2030, valued at approximately $569 million. The unit will continue operating in the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin, and will undergo technological upgrades, including the implementation of managed pressure drilling (MPD) systems starting in 2027.

Meanwhile, the semi-submersible rigs Gold Star and Alpha Star, both built in 2009, were awarded extensions of approximately two years and ten months, keeping them contracted through 2028. The extensions add roughly $266 million and $300 million to the backlog, respectively, and include expanded scopes such as integrated riser services and support for well intervention and decommissioning activities.

All contracts will commence immediately after the expiration of the current terms, ensuring operational continuity for the units. The agreements also include the implementation of new safety-focused technologies on the drill floor, particularly for the Brava Star and Alpha Star units.

  • Brava starts drilling campaign

    Brava starts drilling campaign

Brava Energia has started a drilling campaign using Constellation’s Lone Star rig across the Papa-Terra and Atlanta fields.

The campaign includes four wells, with two located in Papa-Terra, in Campos Basin, and two in Atlanta, in Santos Basin, with completion expected by 1Q27.

The rig moved directly into the project after completing its previous contract in Brazil in January 2026, followed by a planned maintenance stop of just over 40 days, including hull cleaning and equipment overhauls.

Drilling activities will take place in Papa-Terra between March and September 2026, followed by well connection and first oil expected in 4Q26. The rig is scheduled to move to Atlanta in October, where operations will support first oil in 2Q27.

The campaign has been structured under an optimized capex allocation, with 65% directed to Atlanta and 35% to Papa-Terra, leveraging existing infrastructure to enhance production efficiency and reduce unit costs.

  • Constellation starts operations of jack-up ADMarine 511 for Petrobras P&A campaign

Constellation starts operations of jack-up ADMarine 511 for Petrobras P&A campaign

Constellation Oil Services has started operations of the jack-up rig ADMarine 511, under contract with Petrobras for a plug & abandonment (P&A) campaign in Sergipe, Alagoas, Ceará and Potiguar basins. Announced on March 31, 2025, the US$ 170 million contract covers the rig’s mobilization from Bahrain and a firm term of 1,143 days, with extension options. The three-leg cantilever unit, model MSC CJ46-X100D, underwent inspections and upgrades in Brazil to meet local regulatory requirements before commencing operations.

The campaign focuses on well P&A activities linked to fixed structures in shallow waters — a segment expanding in Brazil as decommissioning programs progress. ADMarine 511, capable of operating up to 375 feet (114 meters) deep, completed classification surveys and technical modifications at Estaleiro Atlântico Sul before deployment. Constellation highlighted the project’s contribution to local employment and compliance with Brazilian safety standards.

The contract reinforces the participation of international operators in Brazil’s P&A segment and signals Petrobras’s intention to accelerate decommissioning activities in shallow-water areas. For suppliers and local yards, the campaign opens demand opportunities for mobilization, inspection, and compliance services.

    Petrobras starts drillings

Petrobras began drilling well 4-BRSA-1392D-ESS in the Jubarte field, at a water depth of 968 meters. The site is part of the Parque das Baleias, offshore south of Espírito Santo, in the Campos Basin and is one of the main oil producers in Brazil.

The Brazilian oil company conducts the activity with the Brava Star drillship, from Constellation. The vessel is the most modern unit in the Constellation fleet. It was designed to operate in water depths of up to 12,000 feet (approximately 3,658 meters) and has a drilling capacity of up to 40,000 feet (approximately 12,192 meters).

“About a month ago, the FPSO Maria Quitéria left China heading to Brazil. It will operate in the Jubarte Field, with an estimated production of 100 thousand barrels of oil per day from 2025. The national offshore market and even International are eager to see how the vessel will operate, which promises to innovate in reducing the emission of polluting gases”, recalls Omar Darian, Chartering Manager at WSB.
