    DOF updates: Skandi Amazonas and Skandi Logger

    DOF has provided a market update on the two most significant incidents involving its fleet in recent months, confirming the constructive total loss of the AHTS Skandi Amazonas while also outlining the latest developments regarding the electrical incident aboard Skandi Logger.

    Regarding Skandi Amazonas, the company confirmed it has declared the vessel a Constructive Total Loss (CTL) following the grounding that occurred on 15 May 2026 off Macaé, Brazil. The incident damaged the hull, allowing water to enter the vessel.

    Following an extensive technical assessment, DOF concluded that the estimated cost of rebuilding the vessel exceeds its insured hull and machinery value. As a result, the company will receive a USD 115 million Hull & Machinery insurance payout, bringing market speculation over the vessel’s future to an end.

    DOF also provided an update on Skandi Logger, confirming that, during the early hours of Wednesday (22), the vessel experienced an electrical fault resulting in a short circuit, with no open flame, in its main switchboard while operating alongside Petrobras’ P-37 platform in the Marlim Field, Campos Basin.

    According to the company, the response was immediate, with support provided to the onboard crew and preparations initiated to release the vessel from the field so that the necessary repairs can be carried out. DOF stated that there were no injuries or environmental impacts. The vessel remains under control while the company continues to monitor the situation and implement the necessary measures to ensure the safety of personnel, the environment and ongoing operations.

    SAAM Towage places order for four ASD tugboats at Belov

    Chilean company SAAM Towage, one of the world’s largest port tug operators, has placed an order with Belov Shipyard, in Bahia, Brazil, for the construction of four new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboats. Each vessel will feature 70 tonnes of bollard pull and will be equipped with FiFi firefighting systems.

    The newbuilds are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and form part of SAAM Towage’s strategy to modernize and expand its fleet with next-generation assets across its key markets, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to Brazil.

    According to Renata Ervilha, Country Manager of SAAM Towage Brazil, the investment reflects the company’s strategy of strengthening its operations with state-of-the-art assets while continuing to grow in one of its most important markets. She also highlighted that the partnership with Belov Shipyard will help strengthen the local logistics chain and contribute to the continued development of Brazil’s maritime industry.

    For Belov Shipyard, the contract represents another important step in the recovery of Brazil’s shipbuilding industry, reinforcing the confidence of international operators in the country’s shipbuilding capabilities.

    On March 26, WSB Advisors hosted its first happy hour of 2026 at the company’s rooftop in downtown Rio de Janeiro, gathering around 40 executives and professionals from the offshore sector.

    The event brought together clients, partners and industry peers, with strong participation from shipowners, providing an opportunity to exchange views on current market dynamics in an informal setting. Since 2022, the WSB rooftop has served as a recurring meeting point for the offshore community.

    “It was a memorable night. We dedicated this event to the shipowners, who turned out in force and filled our rooftop. As it was the first of the year, there was strong engagement, with participants actively exchanging valuable information and experiences,” said Pedro Pellegrini, Shipbroker and Naval Engineer at WSB Advisors.

  • Camorim and C-Falcão

    Camorim and C-Falcão


    Camorim launched ASD tug C-Falcão, built by Detroit Brasil in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. C-Falcão is a sister ship to C-Fênix, delivered last week: 70 tons of bollard pull, 24.35 meters in length and 11 meters of beam.

    C-FÊNIX was delivered last week in Rio de Janeiro, on the occasion of the Camorim year end celebration in Marina da Glória where WSB Advisors had the honor to visit and watch the christening by Lalesca Costa. These deliveries are part of five ASD tugs ordered. Next on the line: C-Albatroz, C-Condor and C-Harpia.

    Camorim fleet currently exceeds 140 vessels, including PSVs, AHTSs, barges, launches, floating docks, and LHs.

    Last week, Ronaldo Lima, a valued member of both the WSB Advisors and Westhon Boards of Directors, along with our Proposals Manager, Raphael Montes, represented WSB Advisors at the 90th-anniversary celebration of Syndarma – Sindicato Nac Das Empr De Nav Maritima , held in Rio de Janeiro.

    With a distinguished career, including 20 years as Vice President Syndarma and leadership as President of ABEAM SYNDARMA – the Association of Maritime Support Companies, Ronaldo now leverages his extensive expertise within WSB Advisors and Westhon to support our mission and guide strategic initiatives.

    The Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro has unveiled a detailed report on Brazil’s maritime market, with a special focus on Rio de Janeiro. This report is one of the key sources we use to validate information for WSB One, the largest and most comprehensive database in the market.

    Key Highlights:

    Economic Power

    • The Oil & Gas (O&G) sector represents 15% of Brazil’s industrial GDP.
    • Approximately 96% of this activity takes place in offshore fields, primarily along the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
    • Significant growth over the past 20 years, driven by advancements in deep and ultra-deep water oil and gas production.

    Evolution of the Maritime Support Fleet

    • 1997: Market demand was for 137 vessels. The Brazilian fleet had 32 vessels, with 105 chartered from abroad.
    • 2014: Global demand peaked. The fleet in Brazil comprised 500 vessels (243 Brazilian and 257 foreign).
    • March 2024: The current fleet consists of 434 vessels (371 Brazilian and 63 foreign).
    • Details of the current fleet: 201 PSVs/OSRVs; 63 LH/SVs; 61 AHTS; 25 crew/FSVs; 20 MPSVs; 19 RSVs; 17 PLSVs; 9 Flotels; 5 WSVs; 2 CTVs; 1 SESV; CSV and DSV.
    • Brazil leads the world in AHTS vessels with over 15,000 BHP: 36 out of 235.

    Investments

    • Petrobras plans to contract 38 new maritime support vessels (PSVs, OSRVs, RSVs) by 2030 for contracts ranging from 8 to 10 years.
    • US$ 10 billion has been invested in building 210 OSVs over 20 years, with 76% of this investment coming from foreign companies.

    Decommissioning

    • Petrobras plans to invest US$ 16 billion in decommissioning 23 vessels by 2028, with a major focus on the Campos Basin. An additional 40 vessels will be decommissioned beyond this period.
    • The Port of Açu in São João da Barra handles over 70% of the offshore support for the basin and is well-positioned to meet this demand.

    Rio de Janeiro

    • It is the central hub of the Brazilian maritime market.
    • A major driver of naval demand, particularly due to the offshore oil and gas market, which accounts for 85% of Brazil’s oil production and nearly 75% of its gas production.
    • In addition to the O&G sector, Rio de Janeiro also benefits from emerging markets such as offshore wind energy, defense, logistics, maritime support, fishing, and tourism.
    • The state hosts 24 of the country’s 49 shipyards and naval yards, representing the largest operational naval park in Brazil. Of the large shipyards in the country, 50% are located in the state.
