PSV 4500 HOS Springfield of owners Hornbeck Offshore has recently completed her voyage from Port of Spain and safely arrived in Guanabara Bay. With her arrival, Hornbeck now operates 5 vessels in Brazilian waters, being 4 foreign flagged and one Brazilian flagged. She is being mobilized to commence a charter in the coming weeks.

New contract for Maersk Vega
PSV 4500 Maersk Vega has been awarded a long-term contract with Trident Energy in Brazil. The Brazilian built DP2 vessel is being mobilized in Guanabara Bay. As reported in our previous Weekly Market Update, Trident recently chartered PSV 4500 Normand Titus from Solstad for one year firm. Maersk Vega and Normand Titus join PSV 3000 Mandrião from WSUT. All vessels are employed at Pampo and Enchova fields in Campos Basin.

Maersk Drilling and Shell Brasil
Maersk Drilling has been awarded by Shell Brasil an estimated 90 days contract for the semi-submersible rig Maersk Developer. The rig will drill one exploration well and perform subsea well intervention at the BC- 10 field. Commencement of operations is expected for March 2023 in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract with Karoon Energy. Shell has also moved forward with negotiations on its tender for the charter of up to two platform supply vessels which has now reached the third round of negotiations.

Grupo CBO and hybrid vessels
Wärtsilä and Grupo CBO have signed an “Agreement for Decarbonization Modelling” aiming to support and accelerate the decarbonization of CBO’s offshore supply fleet. The scope of the agreement includes a detailed analysis of the potential benefits to CBO of short and long-term solutions. These include digitization, energy efficiency and energy saving devices, hybridization and future alternative marine fuels with a particular focus on the viability of fuel Ethanol. In connection with this announcement, Equinor informed this week that it has signed an agreement with CBO for the conversion of up to three PSVs to the hybrid model. The intention of the Norwegian major is to have the first vessel ready and adapted by the first quarter of 2023. According to CBO, the PSV CBO Wiser will be the first vessel of their fleet to go through such modifications and receive the battery packs.

Petrobras about to take delivery of PSVs dry bulk carriers
Petrobras will shortly take delivery of two PSV dry-bulk carriers, Asso Ventisei and Saveiros Fragata chartered in one of the Oil Major’s opportunities for DWT 3000 PSVs issued last year. Both vessels are going through final preparations for onhire and shall soon engage in operations. After a long wait of over 4 years for a tender of this type, these contracts mark the return of this once popular category of vessel back into Petrobras’ fleet. The hiring of not only dry-bulk carriers but also other types of PSVs such as Hybrid and Multipurpose, were all mainly driven by the increasing drilling activity by Petrobras in recent years.

Oceanica contracts Norwegian shipyard for retrofit of PSVs
Oceanica has contracted with Norwegian shipyard Green Yard Kleven for the retrofit of two PSVs. The assignment consists of the convertion of two units for operations with ROV and offshore crane, commonly categorized in Brazil as RSV (ROV Support Vessel). The vessels, which are Marin Teknikk design MT6009, have recently been purchased by Oceanica. The first vessel is already at Green Yard Kleven, while the other will arrive at the shipyard in the next few days. Suitably, earlier this year Oceanica participated in Petrobras’ tender for the contracting of RSVs being placed first in two lots (A and D) after the reverse auction. For lot A, Oceanica shall provide a vessel with one Work Class ROV and a 10t capacity crane while lot D requires the same crane capacity but one additional ROV. It is anticipated however not yet officially confirmed that these vessels undergoing modifications in Norway are to fill in the awarded positions. In total, considering other two previously acquired vessels (Far Saga and Far Scout from Solstad) Oceanica has incorporated 4 foreign flagged vessels into their fleet.

Petrobras bids for PSV 4500
Petrobras received this week offers for their PSV 4500 bid, a vessel that will be deployed in the Roncador field (75% Petrobras, 25% Equinor), in what was a very peculiar tendering process. The opportunity, initially released as a public tender, was later cancelled and re-opened as a “SEP” (an invitational tendering process with a pre-approved bidderS list). The intention is to replicate the pattern the Brazilian oil major had adopted for contracting processes in other assets owned by a Consortium (JV) and not just Petrobras, such as the PSV tender for Mero from 2 years ago. Interestingly enough, this time and for the first time, Petrobras opted to have their well-known reverse auction from public tenders implemented into a SEP, although no information was revealed at its closure. Petrobras aims to hire one PSV 4500 Multipurpose (Lot 1), which means any other lot will only be entertained should Petrobras fail to award a suitable candidate from Lot 1. The reverse auction itself was not different from other recent ones, where low vessel availability and a heated market drove daily rates to higher levels, or rather, stopped bidders from lowering too much… four undisclosed Bidders offered 1 vessel each, with the first placed at USD 34.282,00.
