  • Petrobras confirms gas in Colombia

    Petrobras confirms gas in Colombia

    By Rafael Bortoloti

Petrobras has confirmed the presence of gas at the Uchuva-2 well, an extension of the Uchuva-1 discovered two years ago. Located in the Tayrona Block in the Guajira Basin in Colombia, Uchuva-2 is situated 31 km off the coast at a depth of 804 meters.

Petrobras is the operator of the block with a 44.44% stake, in partnership with Ecopetrol, which holds 55.56%. Although WSB typically focuses on news from Brazil, this discovery in Colombia highlights Petrobras’s growing international presence in South America. The company has been expanding its portfolio and establishing new offices abroad, potentially creating opportunities for Brazilian drilling companies.

Another important aspect is the specific challenges of exploration in Colombia. Our Geologist Anidio Correa, Leader of Environmental Projects at R&D at WSB Advisors, explains that the origin of the basins and sediments in the region is distinct, which may require the use of different types of vessels.

“It changes everything. Exploration in Colombia will bring new challenges for Petrobras, as these wells are different from those found in Brazil. This region of the Caribbean has a unique environment, heavily influenced by volcanism. The origin of the basins and sediments is completely different, as is the composition of the rocks and the thickness of the layers. This may require, for example, the use of a drillship different from the ones commonly used in Brazil,” says Corrêa.

  • Petrobras PSV Tender Results Announced

    Petrobras PSV Tender Results Announced

    By Alexandre Vilela

Initially intended to hire 2 vessels, the tender’s demand fluctuated into 10 ships than back to 2, eventually offering 4 units at closure, with notable high-side outliers.

    Highlights:

(Bram Offshore): Two competitive bids with Brazilian-flagged, Norway-built (Simek A/S) vessels, aligning with current market averages.

Wilson Sons and Posidonia Shipping: Off-the-charts bids, indicating future market directions.

The Chouest units are currently engaged with Petrobras in the Equatorial Margin under foreign flag contracts until Q4 this year. (For detailed insights, courtesy of WSB One, please contact us.)

    Key Insight:

Chouest will release BRAM tonnage when the Sapura Navegação Marítima vessels conclude their current term. As previously reported by WSB Advisors, these PLSVs will be demobilized for the new contract set to commence in Q1 2025.

  • AHTS tender: an update

    AHTS tender: an update

    By Alexandre Vilela

Petrobras closed the AHTS tender, with plans to hire up to 7 AHTSs and one OTSV. The amplitude on rates is worth noting.

TS: Asgaard with AHTSs offered at USD 31k, for comparison below the last OSRV average rates.

Asso Marítima Navegação Ltda (Augusta Offshore S.p.A.) just below USD 40k, with Solstad Offshore ASA and GRUPO CBO – Companhia Brasileira de Offshore in the mid-40s set the marketplace trend for now. CBO offered their largest AHTSs, out-priced for this category.

TO/OTSV: CBO and OceanPact Serviços Marítimos rates are not far apart for similar-sized AHTSs, mid to high USD 60’s. However, compared to the TS rates, they are nearly double and not far from the OTSV rate at USD 78k for a much more complex unit.

Results expertly compiled by the WSB Advisors team, bringing you the latest updates on this significant development.

  • Updates on PSV newbuild tender

    Updates on PSV newbuild tender

    By Raphael Montes

Petrobras has disclosed some significant changes to the ongoing public tender set to charter up to 12 newbuild PSVs. The opportunity was also postponed once again, now with a deadline until September 13th 2024. Amongst the changes to the tender, Petrobras opted to increase the maximum amount of awards per bidder from 4 to 6 vessels, which added 2 more batches for 8-year firm contract duration and 2 for 10-year firm contract duration.

Additionally, Petrobras created 6 entirely new batches for 12-year firm contract duration, with the same specifications and mobilization strategy as the original batches.

Considering the increase in awards per bidder and inclusion of batches for 12-year contracts, the opportunity now counts with 18 batches available for bidders to offer, rather than the original 8.
